2013 Stroke & Critical Illness: Travis was hospitalized with viral cardiomyopathy and congestive heart failure, then suffered a severe stroke. He was given a very slim chance of survival and was in critical condition for months.
The stroke caused aphasia, a condition that affects speech and communication, and left him with limited ability to speak or sing.
Randy’s wife, Mary Travis, has been his devoted caregiver since his health crisis. She stayed by his side through the worst of his condition and has spoken publicly about their faith, perseverance, and his ongoing recovery.

Randy has appeared multiple times at special events and celebrations, including a tribute during the Grand Ole Opry’s 100th anniversary, where he contributed emotionally despite his health limitations.
